Juxtapositions Lecture: Jonathan Kramnick, “On Handsomeness, Considered as a Category of Aesthetics”

Jonathan Kramnick is Maynard Mack Professor of English at Yale University, where his research and teaching focus on the literature, philosophy, and culture of eighteenth-century Britain, philosophical approaches to literature, and cognitive science and the arts. He is the author of three books: Making the English Cannon: Print Capitalism and the Cultural Past, 1700-1770 (Cambridge UP, 1990), Actions and Objects from Hobbes to Richardson (Stanford UP, 2010), and Paper Minds: Literature and Ecology of Consciousness, forthcoming from University of Chicago Press in Spring 2018. Additionally, he serves as the directory of the Lewis Walpole Library and is the editor (with Steven Pincus) of the Lewis Walpole Series in Eighteenth-Century Culture and History for Yale University Press.
