Alvaro Azcárraga, Brianna Leatherbury, & Tatiana Istomina 

Alvaro Azcárraga is a Mexican artist and researcher that works with plant-like organisms with a focus on the history of scientific colonialism.

Brianna Leathersbury seeks to make connections with the people and places of non-art industries, most recently real estate and finance (and now genetics), in order to extend the reach of the artwork into everyday life. 

Tatiana Istomina is a multi-media artist working with painting, sculpture, film, and text. The central question in her practice is the conditions of knowledge and the variable concepts of truth.

Coalesce, part of the UB Genome, Environment and Microbiome Community of Excellence, is a hybrid studio-laboratory facility located on UB’s North Campus, dedicated to enabling hands-on creative engagement with the tools and technologies of the life sciences. 

This event is is part of the worldwide LASER Talks series supported by Leonardo/The International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology and is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, Torn Space Theater, University at Buffalo Department of Art, and UB Genome, Environment and Microbiome Community of Excellence.
