April 23, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The Translation Zone Research Workshop is hosting an interactive session where we will be working together to translate a ghazal by the 13th-century Persian poet Jalaluddin Rumi. This event will be led by Shima Bagheri of Allameh Tabatabai University in Iran. Instruction on how to participate in this interactive workshop are available here:
Shima Bagheri Ahranjani is a PhD Candidate at Allameh Tabatabai University in Iran where she is researching Persian literature that specializes in the portrayal of Rumi in the West and translation criticism of scholarly works by Reynold Nicholson and renderings by Coleman Barks. A poet herself, she spent more than a decade studying the Masnavi and Divan-e Shams of Rumi, and other mystical poets that guided her on creating a new style of writing she has called “Mystical Satire.” Her most recent translation work on “The Life and Works of Reynold Nicholson” appeared in Bukhara Magazine in Iran (Feb 2021). Currently, Shima is authoring a book that is focused on the states and stages of Rumi’s spiritual journey.
