Confucius Institute: Scott Tong, “A Village with My Name: A Family History of China’s Opening to the World”

April 5, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Scott Tong’s first book, A Village with My Name: A Family History of China’s Opening to the World, offers a long view of China’s opening to the West told through the lives of people across five generations in his own family. Tong, former Shanghai bureau chief for Marketplace, offers a unique perspective on the transitions in China through the eyes of his family members. By uncovering his family’s history, Tong discovered a new way to understand the defining moments of modern China and its long, interrupted quest to go global.
