“Violet Blossoms and Violent Letters: On Virginia Woolf and Lyric Reading”

David Ben-Merre is an associate professor in the Department of English at Buffalo State. He has published on Lord Byron, W.B. Yeats, Pound, James Joyce and Albert Einstein, World War I poetry, Charles Dickens, Carly Simon, Giorgio Agam-ben, James Merrill, Martin Amis, and the early years of Poetry Magazine–among other topics, and has two books forthcoming: The “Super Schoolmaster” (with Robert Scholes; on the pedagogical guises of Ezra Pound) and Figures of Time (on the figural temporalities of modernist poetry). This will be a great opportunity to get to know an impressive local colleague.
