Making Money Research Workshop: From Barter to Bitcoin – Alternative Currency Systems

November 14, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

For this meeting Eric Drasin (MFA Grad, Art) will present a cursory overview of cryptocurrencies with a particular focus on the ethereum platform. Chris Lee (Assistant Professor, Art/Graphic Design) will sketch out a landscape of (alternative) currencies with an overview of a variety of precedents.

In preparation for this meeting and discussion, we suggest reading the following two introductory chapters (or either ch. 1 or 2, if you are pressed for time) from Peter North’s Money and Liberation: Micropolitics of Alternative Currency Movements (https://www.scribd.com/document/24942468/Peter-North-Money-and-Liberation). Please note that pg. 23 will not be visible unless you are signed in (and don’t google “Peter North” if you are at school without qualifying it with “alternative currency”)!!
