Pieces of Circumstance: An international colloquium on how early moderns lived the contexts of their experience(s)

May 8 - May 9

Please join the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, Amy Graves Monroe, for “Pieces of Circumstance.” This conference is the inaugural colloquium of “Converge @ UB”, a series of the vice provost of international education.

The theme of the conference addresses how early moderns inhabited the circumstances of their lived reality. It is designed to go further than microhistory and ventures into early modern testimonies of their affective relationship with salient moments. These moments are the thread that links each contribution to these two days of talks and roundtables – moments of grief, fear, death, panic, awe, injury, discovery, failure, lost love…. Come discover more about early modern sensibilities! Scholars from France, Poland, Switzerland, Canada, the UK and the US will be featured.

For more information and a detailed schedule, please email Amy Graves Monroe (acgraves@buffalo.edu).
