Poetics Plus Series: Christian Hawkey

The English Department welcomes translator and poet Christian Hawkey as part of the Poetics Plus Series.

Author of the poetry collections The Book of Funnels (Wave 2004) and Citizen Of (Wave 2007), Christian Hawkey has published a bi-lingual erasure with Uljana Wolf, Sonne from Ort (kookbooks verlag 2013), a co-translation with Wolf of a selection of Ilse Aichinger’s short prose, Bad Words (Seagull Books 2019), and the cross-genre book Ventrakl (Ugly Duckling Presse 2010). His most recent poetry book Sift (Action Books 2021) emerges from a co-translation from Arabic, with Marouane Zakhir, of Moroccan theorist Abdessalam Benabdelali. Hawkey has received a Kate Tufts Discovery Award, a Creative Capital Innovative Literature Award, an NEA grant, and a DAAD Artist-in-Berlin Fellowship, among other awards. His own work has been translated into over a dozen languages.  He is Professor of Writing at the Pratt Institute.
