Translation Zone Research Workshop: Dr. Kanupriya Dhingra, “Decoding the ‘Local’ in Translations of Amrita Pritam’s Poetry”

The Translation Zone Research Workshop is pleased to host a Zoom talk titled “Decoding the ‘Local’ in Translations of Amrita Pritam’s Poetry” by Dr. Kanupriya Dhingra.

Dr. Kanupriya Dhingra is an Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean at the Jindal School of Languages and Literature, Jindal Global University. She is a Board of Directors member at the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP). Kanupriya researches the History of the Book and Print Cultures, focusing on Delhi (India) from an ethnographic perspective. Her first monograph is currently under contract with Cambridge University Press. Based on her doctoral research at SOAS (University of London) under the Felix Scholarship Fund, she writes about the spatiality of Old Delhi’s famous Daryaganj Sunday Book Bazaar and its booksellers. In July-August 2023, Kanupriya was a Fellow at the Institute of English Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London. She is also deeply interested in Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu poetry. Her creative writing and translations have appeared in Indian Literature (Sahitya Akademy), Scroll, Indian Writers Forum, Guftgu, and Aainanagar. Her translations of two short stories, by Premchand (Hindi) and Nasira Sharma (Urdu), into English, have appeared in edited volumes published by Niyogi Books (2022) and Oxford University Press (2022), respectively.
